I was asked by Jeff Cripe, a longtime friend and very talented programmer, to design the graphics and artwork for a game he wanted to create. We created the game after several weeks of development, and Pelican Patrol was born. It was really fun to create and ended up being an amazing learning experience. I love the gradient color way I was able to use in the background. The basic animations and pixelation really give it that retro vibe too. It's always interesting to look back at projects from the past. Overall I was happy with the outcome, but now I can look at it and see a million things that I would do differently. I've come a long way, trust me. The app is still available for download, so try it here!

The game starts with the user taking a pelican's point-of-view as it flies over the ocean, hungry and searching for food. As you coast above the water, different types of fish will appear in the distance, allowing the user the ability to tap on the fish so the pelican will swoop down and eat it. But be careful, don't tap on the squid or you'll lose points. There's much more to the game. Play it and find out what happens when the moon is full!
We were able to create some awesome animations to show the movement of water, the sky, and the pelicans. Each position change of the pelican's wings during the flapping needed to be created and added to the code to animate the images. Making sure the shadows and lighting looked right throughout the animation loop was a challenge for me as a new designer.
Overall I had a great time helping to create this game, and had a lot of fun playing it. After completing it, we shared it with all our friends and it was great to see everyone playing it and giving us feedback. I don't think this will be the last game I help make!
