If you've ever used social media then you've probably seen Snapchat filters. These are usually graphic designs applied to the image and only usable in specific geographic areas, hence the name "geofilters". You can choose existing filters to use, or create your own. These are awesome to gift to friends and family for any kind of special occasion. I can customize where they show up and for how long, making them great for surprising friends and family. You can even have geofilters for entire cities that anyone in the community can use. Some of the images below show what they looked like in Adobe Illustrator before and after I exported them, as well as screenshots of the submission process. It's fun and interesting to work with Snapchat's submission system, and they provide analytics about each geofilters results. I'm excited to continue creating them, which I plan on doing whenever I get the chance!

Graduation parties, weddings, and any kind of get-together provides a great opportunity to use a geofilter. I start by getting input from the customer on what they want to display, I give suggestions and advice so they know not to use colors and designs that won't display well, or could cover up too much of the screen.

Snapchat also has their own submission requirements and guidelines, such as not being able to display alcohol in certain ways. The filter below had to be tweaked several times before I could get it to pass because of it containing bottles of vodka. After submitting and being approved, I can visit an analytics website to see the results of the filter.

I surprised everyone at our 2012 High School class reunion with a filter of our mascot. It was quick and easy to make, and everyone was able to use it when taking their pictures with old friends.

I had so much fun making them, I even threw some together randomly when hanging with friends.

Snapchat also allows community submissions, meaning you can submit a filter for an entire area to use, such as a school or city. This is how you're able to use a Cincinnati Reds filter when you're at the Reds game. It's a bit harder to be accepted due to legal reasons, obviously the Cincinnati Reds don't want just anybody displaying their own custom filter in their stadium. I've been working on a few, and would love to get the filter below approved for the city of Cincinnati. I'll update this in the future if it ever happens!

The city also known as “Porkopolis”

If you like what you see and want a filter for your own special occasion, let me know and I can help out!
